St. Clare Knights Blood Drive – Nov 14, 2020

The St. Clare Knights are hosting a Blood Drive, Saturday November 14.  Blood continues to be rationed due to low inventory levels resulting from COVID-19, and if another COVID-19 spike hits this fall, the situation is expected to worsen.  Please consider giving the gift of life during this critical time.  We are hosting this event in Jan Green’s name, who continues to need blood as she fights Leukemia at MD Anderson Hospital.  Jan is the spouse of Brother Knight Terry Green and longtime active parishioner.

Two MD Anderson Donor Coach Vans will be in the church parking lot. This is open to the public but you must register for an appointment. No walk-ins are allowed.  Time slots are available from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm.  MD Anderson Registration (MUST Register): https://tinyurl.com/stclare1120

Donation Requirements:

  1. Be in generally good health
  2. Feeling well
  3. Be at least 17 years old
  4. Weigh at least 110 lbs
  5. Not be pregnant
  6. Have eaten a good meal

More Hurricane Laura Donations

The St. Clare Knights gathered more Hurricane Laura Donations on Saturday Sep 19, 2020.  The Knights coordinated donations from both the Knights and the Parish. One extremely full pickup truck was then driven to the Shrine of the True Cross Knights in Dickenson who were driving to the Lake Charles area later that evening.  In total the Knights gathered 2 completely full pickup trucks, 1 SUV, and made a cash donation of $300 to the Hurricane Relief.

Hurricane Laura Donations

The St. Clare Knights gathered Hurricane Laura Donations on Friday Sep 11, 2020, and met up with Brittmoore Rescue in Kemah, TX.  After loading the donated supplies Brittmoore Rescue drove to Lake Charles later that afternoon.  The St. Clare Knights also made a cash donation of $300 to Brittmoore Rescue to provide additional items to the Hurricane Victims.

2020 Knights Volunteer at Houston Food Bank

On Saturday, August 1, the St. Clare Knights of Columbus and their families volunteered at the Houston Food Bank sorting and boxing food for low income seniors.  The team loaded seven pallets containing 315 boxes with a total weight of approximately 9,500 lbs of food.   During the COVID-19 pandemic there is a critical need for volunteers at the Houston Food Bank.  Congratulations to all of the volunteers!

2020 Scholarship Awards

The St. Clare Knights of Columbus presented the 2020 Scholarship Awards to the recipients on Thursday, July 9 during an online ceremony due to social distancing. The St Clare Knights began awarding scholarships to deserving high school graduates in 2009; since then, the Knights have funded scholarships totaling more than $48,000.

This year the St. Clare Knights awarded 5 scholarships totaling $6,500 including the $3,000 Elizabeth Witten Scholarship. James Witten was a 4th degree Knight, and the funding of this scholarship is one of the many ways his family honors his and his wife’s memory.

Scholarship awards are sent directly to the admitting school in August to be used for any expense posted by the school for the student. Congratulations to all of our Scholarship Winners!  This year the Scholarship winners are:

St. Clare Blood Drive

A St. Clare Blood Drive was held on Friday, July 10.  The Blood Drive was organized when the spouse of a Brother Knight, was hospitalized and could not receive needed blood due to COVID-19 rationing.  A very special Thank You to the 25 Brother Knights and the entire Parish that volunteered to give blood.  Thank you for putting your Faith in Action to help others.

Seminarian Benjamin King Takes His First Vows

Seminarian Benjamin King takes his first vows of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience on June 27 in the Miles Christi Chapel in Lujan, Argentina.  Ben is the grandson of Pat and Mary Alyce Hall.  After the homily Ben was assisted into his “Habit”, as the cassock is called.  Although his family was unable to attend the ceremony due to the COVID-19 quarantine, they were able to view the broadcast on-line.

The St. Clare Knights of Columbus have supported Ben on his journey through the (RSVP) Seminarian Support Program the last few years.  His next step is a few years study of Theology in Rome after which he looks forward to ordination.  His duties will be working with young Catholics in the U.S. where Miles Christi has locations in Michigan and California.  Congratulations to the entire family.

2020 Officer Installation

The St. Clare Knight of Columbus held their Officer Installation ceremony on June 25th for the 2020-2021 fraternal year. For the first time ever, the ceremony was held Online due to the pandemic. Please congratulate all of the new Officers and Directors for the 2020-2021 fraternal year.

District Deputy Jerry Moch, and Acting Chaplin Deacon Jack Dean, presided over the Officer Installation. All members and their Spouses were encouraged to attend.
