2019 Special Olympics

The Special Olympics has been one of the Knights charitable causes for many years, and is one of our Faith in Action Programs.  The St. Clare Knights of Columbus are proud to participate in this great cause with our charitable donations.

The Knights of Columbus has a unique partnership with the Special Olympics and has helped disabled athletes train for and compete in games around the world.  Knights of Columbus Councils have assisted with all aspects of the program from fundraising to feeding the athletes, organizing and judging events, and providing equipment and awards. without the support of the Knights, participants would not be able to train for the events that they love.

2019 Installation of Officers

The Knights of Columbus held their Installation of Officers on Thursday, June 20, 2019.  Dave Fronick will continue as Grand Knight for the 2019-2020 fraternal year.  Congratulations to all of the new Officers and Trustees; see them on our webpage.

After the ceremonies, District Deputy Felipe Sanchez presented Dave Fronick with the Texas Quick Start Award for meeting all state goals in the first 6 months of the year.  This was Felipe’s last meeting as our District Deputy after 5 years of service; we are thankful for his dedication and service to our Counsel.  The new District Deputy will be our very own Jerry Moch and we wish him the best in his new position.  Congratulations to everyone!

2019 Scholarship Awards

The St. Clare Knights of Columbus presented the 2019 Scholarship Awards at the graduation dinner on Sunday, May 19. The St Clare Knights began awarding scholarships to deserving high school graduates in 2012; since then, the Knights have funded scholarships totaling more than $42,000.

This year the St. Clare Knights awarded 5 scholarships totaling $8,000 including the $3,000 Elizabeth Witten Scholarship.  James Witten was a 4th degree Knight, and the funding of this scholarship is one of the many ways his family honors his and his wife’s memory.

This year the Knights presented the Witten Scholarship Award to Wyatt King.  Wyatt recently joined the Knights of Columbus and this marks the first time a Knight has ever won the Award.  The other Scholarship winners were:

Miranda Asuncion;
Tegan Standa;
Haylee Hallberg; and
James Selmarten.

Scholarship awards are sent directly to the admitting school in August to be used for any expense posted by the school for the student.  Congratulations to all of our Scholarship Winners!

Gold Ticket Dinner – Mardi Gras in May

The winner of the St. Clare Golf Tournament’s Gold Ticket Dinner, Sue Foster, was guest of honor at a Mardi Gras in May celebration hosted by Pat and Mary Alyce Hall and Jerry and Gale Schexnayder Moch.  Sue and her guests, including Fr. Vincent and Dr. Al, enjoyed drinks and appetizers on the patio—along with a fun Mardi Gras quiz!  Inside, amid many Mardi Gras decorations, dinner featured turkey-sausage gumbo, chicken jambalaya, Cajun white beans and salad. Dessert was Louisiana king cake and pecan pralines.

2019 – 9th Annual St. Clare of Assisi Golf Scramble

On March 30th the St. Clare of Assisi Catholic School and Knights of Columbus Council 9708 hosted their 9th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Battleground Golf Club with a record number of 132 golfers.  The weather was excellent, and much fun was had by all.  Because of the hard work of the golf planning team and generosity of the sponsors, parish and participants, nearly $22,000 was raised to support St. Clare School and the many charitable organizations that the KofC sponsors.  See Photo Album.

2018 Knights Volunteer at Houston Food Bank

The St. Clare Knights volunteer at Houston Food Bank; this was a very rewarding experience where the Knights of Columbus, family and friends all participate in packaging food for Houston’s hungry.  On Saturday, November 3, our group worked on the Backpack Buddy Program filling bags of food that are distributed to hungry children.  Nutritious, kid-friendly food is provided for the weekend for at-risk children in schools grades K-12, as well as at summer meal program sites.  See the Video of the day (click to enlarge).
